And that Tower in the upper right is giving me a hard time as well. I thought of Tycho Brahe's Castle somehow. But why? With the help of reasonable deduction it must be possible to skin that cat. Done it before, out of the blue, can do it again. Crime Writers tend to like to lay good clues for their readers.
Well I already hinted that it's much more famous than Siem Reap ... and in fact it's one of the most famous places on Earth, everybody knows its story.

Hadrian's Wall was built about 1200 years after this thing. In the Battle Of Real Famous Things, my wall is arguably more famous than Hadrian's Wall.
Look carefully at the meager puny little hints I've left. One of them may point you in the right direction.
