Resolved, that President George W. Bush be impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors, and that the following articles of impeachment be exhibited to the United States Senate:

Articles of impeachment exhibited by the House of Representatives of the United States of America in the name of itself and of the people of the United States of America, in maintenance and support of its impeachment against President George W. Bush for high crimes and misdemeanors.

In his conduct while President of the United States, George W. Bush, in violation of his constitutional oath to faithfully execute the office of President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in violation of his constitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, has committed the following abuses of power.

I see that the GLAST telescope has been launched today.

How much time might be required before analysis of GLAST data might indicate proof or rejection of Hawking Radiation theory?

This could be critical in determining the safety of the Large Hadron Collider, due to begin collisions later this year.

Unlike what CERN tells the public, the Large Hadron Collider Safety Assessment Group (LSAG) writes that current safety arguments are not valid proof of safety. Micro black holes might be created by the Large Hadron Collider, they might not evaporate, they might grow quickly and we have not been damaged by cosmic rays because cosmic rays pass harmlessly through Earth. CERN also tells the public that a new safety report has been completed, but so far the final report has not been released for review by world’s scientists.

The legal complaint before US Federal Court in Hawaii demands 4 months to review this safety report and a permanent injunction if safety can not be assured to within reasonable industry standards. First hearing is scheduled for June 16, 2008.

In the interest of bringing the arguments of all sides to the public's attention, Agence-Vleeptron Presse has filched the Home Page of http://www.LHCfacts.org/

As we posted some time ago, a lawsuit has been filed in U.S. federal court in Honolulu calling for, among other things, a cease and desist order to end all federal government cooperation with the scheduled startup of the Large Hadron Collider. Several U.S. Department of Energy facilities are participating in and assisting the LHC.

One plaintiff is a Ph.D. in nuclear physics from the University of California at Berkeley.

Essentially plaintiffs contend that the Large Hadron Collider will, or stands a substantial risk of, creating a small Black Hole, which will risk considerable damage to or the destruction of the Earth.
Another theorized candidate for LHC-caused damage is the creation of a strangelet.

Question: COULD THIS BE THE MOST DANGEROUS EXPERIMENT IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND?

It is certainly the largest. It is a 17 mile underground tunnel that was begun in 1983 and forms a circle under two countries, France and Switzerland. And it is about to be part of the most anticipated scientific experiment ever created by man.

The European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN) is just weeks away from firing up the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). This is the most powerful particle collider ever created and it will accelerate trillions of heavy lead particles to almost the speed of light and then smash them together head on. These head-on collisions at a combined rate of two times the speed of light (relative to the observer) will create an enormous concentrated energy of 1,150 TeV, tera (trillion) electronvolts, or 1.15 Quadrillion electronvolts of energy. This is expected to create conditions that haven’t existed since the big bang.

This experiment is being carried out by some of the world’s top scientists, including Nobel Prize winners. Their hope is to smash atoms into smaller pieces than ever before possible so that they can verify the veracity of several theories which have never been proven. If they can do this, they will win more Nobel Prizes and receive other great rewards.

The problem is that at this energy, at this scale of physics, almost all we know is based on theories, the very theories they are trying to prove. And some of these theories predict that when those atoms smash together at such a high energy, the conversion of energy to mass (E=mc2) could create miniature black holes or worse. These MBH’s could possibly be captured by the earth’s gravity and begin gathering matter from the center of the earth. If this were to happen, our entire beautiful planet could be compacted down to the size of a golf ball. This is a very dangerous experiment simply because we are right on the frontier of what we know and what we can only imagine.

This subject is very complex and there is a heated debate raging from both sides of the issue. Our goal here at LHCFacts.org is to lend a voice to the growing movement of people that would like to see a thorough safety review performed by some group that is not beholden to the scientists at CERN and does not have a financial interest in this billion dollar experiment. Please read through the material we have compiled and let us know your thoughts by posting comments. Let us know if you think we have gotten something wrong, too. We are not physicists. We are only collecting the words of the physicists and putting together a story. And in return, we hope to receive a story of safety back from CERN. So far, CERN has promised us such a story, but has not delivered. And the zero hour draws uncomfortably near.

So please, have a seat and read on. The scientists at CERN have a lot invested in this experiment. They may be willing to take risks that you and I would be appalled at. This is why it is important that we learn all we can about the LHC, before it is too late.

  • Q: What is the Large Hadron Collider?

    The ‘LHC’ is the largest, most expensive scientific experiment ever created. It is located along the French and Swiss border and it will create conditions not seen since the first fraction of a second after the big bang 13.7 billion years ago. This experiment is expected to begin colliding particles some time in 2008.

    Q: Why all the concern now?

    When funding for the LHC was approved decades ago, scientists believed that there was no reasonable danger. But then scientists discovered a few years ago that the LHC might create something called a micro black hole, and CERN then predicted that it might create micro black holes at a rate of 1 per second. And the creation of just 1 micro black hole could potentially destroy the planet in our lifetime.

    Q: But surely no scientist would purposefully destroy the planet, that is just not credible!

    No, the scientists would not purposefully destroy the planet! But they might do it by accident and they might take risks that are much much higher than they are willing to tell you they might. Just like the managers that recommended Launching the Shuttle Challenger did not believe that it would explode. They knew there might be a reasonable risk because their engineers told them there might be a reasonable risk. But the managers said (paraphrase) “there is no proof of reasonable risk… launch!”

    Q: OK, I want the facts, what questions should I be asking about Large Hadron Collider?

    I recommend the following questions…

    Q: Scientists are not worried about this experiment are they?

    A: Actually some may be worried, according to Dr. Raj Baldev, Cosmo Theorist . Dr. Baldev says “ … the scientists are fully aware that it is not a project without a grave risk to the life of the Earth.

    Q: Micro black holes probably won’t be created will they?

    A: Actually according to CERN’s safety web site in 2008 predicted creation of up to 1 micro black hole per second. And CERN still predicts that micro black hole creation will not be an unexpected event.”

    Q: Wouldn’t more powerful cosmic rays create micro black holes if particle colliders could?

    A: Some scientists have argued that cosmic ray collisions are the same as head-on collider conditions, but the facts do not support that assertion. Occasionally a cosmic ray may involve a single proton traveling so fast that it may have more net energy when impacting a relatively stationary particle on Earth, but the results will be safely sent into space. Head-on collider collisions may involve thousands of protons (or protons to anti-protons) colliding all at the same time, head-on at 99.9999991% of the speed of light in both directions (colliding similar to a head-on car collision) in temperatures lower than space with powerful magnetic fields to help focus all the energy to a single point in space (extreme focus of potentially much more mass than a stray cosmic ray) and particles created may be captured by Earth’s gravity, possibly including the first micro black hole that might be created containing thousands of protons or the energy of thousands of protons and/ anti-protons, in the first second of full energy collisions. The differences between cosmic ray impacts and collider collisions are significant and numerous.

    Q: Don’t Micro Black Holes just evaporate?

    A: The black holes we know of grow at rapid rates, and the following PHDs and Professors of Math and Physics argue that micro black holes might only grow:

    • this prediction rests on two dubious assumptions…
    • no compelling theoretical case for or against radiation by black holes

    Q: But don’t most physicists still believe that micro black holes will evaporate?

    A: Actually James Blodgett, who has a masters degree in statistics conducted a Delphi Study of 15 physicists, and he says “In 2004, I tried a series of Delphi questionnaires in which I asked physicists their estimates of several components of collider risk. As an example of the variability, estimates that Hawking radiation would fail ranged from 0% to 50%. The data are as follows: 0, 0, 1E-10, 0.001, 0.01, 0.01, 0.01, 0.02, 0.02, 0.07, 0.1, 0.1, 0.3, 0.35, 0.5. This was… before we were aware of the papers questioning [Hawking Radiation]“..

    Q: But Stephen Hawking says the experiment is safe, and isn’t he one of the most famous scientists on Earth?

    A: Actually Dr. Stephen Hawking is famous and creative, and he is hoping to win his first Nobel prize if he can prove that Hawking Radiation is real. But his theories often tend to be disputed or found incorrect. Hawking Radiation theory may prove to follow this trend also.

    Q: Ok, so if micro black holes are created, and they do not evaporate, then how fast would a micro black hole grow?

    A: Germany’s Dr. Otto E. Rosssler, inventor of Chaos theory’s Rossler attractor, predicts possible destruction of the planet in just years or decades: Abraham-Solution to Schwarzschild Metric Implies That CERN Miniblack Holes Pose a Planetary Risk

    (Dr. Rossler’s theory is that when a MBH accretes a charged particle, say electron, this will not go straight into the MBH, but will circulate around the MBH for a while, and by doing this, a magnetic field will be created which will attract positive and negative charged particles, each at the opposite poles of the MBH, thus accelerating the accretion rate.)

    Q: What will CERN do if they discover that the Large Hadron Collider is creating micro black holes that don’t evaporate?

    A: According to recent reports, CERN will stop the experiment. One recent post on the topic reads “… if there was a black hole at the interaction point, we could very easily detect a huge drop in the rate of events within a millisecond (from 40 MHz to 100 Hz) and turn off the accelerator.”

    Q: So we should be safe correct?

    A: Unfortunately once a micro black hole has been created, it may be absorbed by the Earth in just seconds. And once that happens, there is no known power on Earth that could halt the process of micro black hole growth.

    Q: Ok, but why aren’t micro black holes created in other colliders?

    A: Existing colliders are many times less powerful than the Large Hadron Collider. And most physicists think that the much lower power existing particle colliders have not created micro black holes. However there have been some incidents that hint that science may be close to creating micro black holes even with less powerful colliders. For example, Horatiu Nastase of Brown University writes: “We argue that the fireball observed at RHIC is (the analog of) a dual black hole.” The RHIC fireball as a dual black hole, and Nobel laureate Dr. Eric A. Cornell, does not rule out the possibility of stable micro black hole creation after an unexpected bosenova implosion at the university of Colorado.

    Q: I heard there is a lawsuit, what is the status of that?

    A: The first hearing in the US legal action is June 16, 2008 in US District Court of Hawaiian before the honorable Judge Helen Gillmor.     Thus, the currently accepted “safety net“ can be described as having 4 levels:

    (i) the miniholes may fail to appear;

    (iii) evaporation may be a myth as Professor Belinski argues;

    (iv) linear growth may be myth as Dr. Rossler argues;

    Recall the management argument before the last launch of the shuttle Challenger “What risk? 300% safety margin, launch!”

    Another recent blog is also a good indication of the state of the science on this topic:

    It is absolutely relevant. If you had a reasonable explanation for the mechanics of Hawking Radiation you would be fighting to post it correctly on Wikipedia.

    The fact that you do not is fairly strong evidence that you can not, and a fairly strong indicator that black holes losing energy is a conjecture, a conjecture that requires Dr. Albert Einstein to be doubly wrong according to Dr. Stephen Hawking, that may very likely be absolutely incorrect with potentially very serious consequences.

    A t-shirt design. I rotated it 90 degrees and shrunk it to 33 percent, and it fits on one sheet of 8.5 x 11 inch (21.6 x 27.9 cm) paper, which I can take to Paradise Copies tomorrow and have made into a t-shirt. Please feel free to do the same. I filched everything.

    Any day or week now, they're going to power up the Large Hadron Collider for the first time, accelerate beams of protons to
    99.999999 percent of the speed of light, and then smash them into one another. This is the most powerful particle accelerator on Earth, and will achieve energies of 7,000,000,000,000 Electron Volts. At those energies it should show unambiguous evidence of the Higgs Boson, which, until now, has only been theorized to exist, but has never been detected.

    The theory -- called The Standard Model -- says the Higgs Boson is the particle which gives mass to massive things. If the LHC, and other accelerators around the world trying to find it, can't unambiguously verify its existence, then there's something wrong with The Standard Model, and a new theory of matter, energy, time and dimensions -- there seem to be lots of these, many more than our Wal-Mart 3 or 4 dimensions -- will have to be developed.

    Looked at another way, the LHC will recreate the conditions of physical reality that existed the instant after the Big Bang. We will be looking back to the beginning of time and the universe -- to an instant when there was stuff, but none of it had any mass. Having no mass, there was no gravity, therefore stuff could not attract other stuff, therefore no stars could form. Things were a little different at and right after the Big Bang than they've been since.

    The unimaginably dense glob of stuff at the beginning of time is called the yglem. I'm just saying that because I love that word. Yglem. Yglem. I think the word was filched from Norse mythology. I can't find it in my Merriam Webster dictionary, and although I get about 60 Google hits, the only one about Big Bang physics is an old VleeptronZ post (it's Hit No. 1). I have utterly no idea how it's pronounced. Maybe the Norwegian guy who wrote my free (not counting the fresh spices I sent him) XCALC Reverse Polish Notation desktop calculator knows, I'll ask him. (You probably think you don't need a Reverse Polish Notation calculator, but you do.)

    I don't personally believe the powered-up LHC will create a Black Hole or a Strangelet which will devour the Earth. But there's the constellation Draco munching on Geneva, as some people claim will happen.

    Agence-Vleeptron Presse regularly and routinely reports on the nasty crap going on all over Planet Earth, and there's lots of it.

    But this summer, thousands of Earth's best human minds will do a rather sublime and extremely important and positive thing when they power up the LHC and search for the Higgs Boson -- to reveal a deeper layer of physical reality. Maybe the deepest level of physical reality human beings can ever see.

    At top, the theoretical physicist Peter Higgs, of the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, who, in 1964, postulated the existence of the Higgs Boson as the mechanism that transports and imparts mass to things. Its elusiveness -- a half-dozen powerful atom-smashers have been searching for it ever since -- has even caused him to doubt its existence.

    Here Higgs takes a tour of the LHC, at CERN a little west of Geneva. The LHC is an experimental project which has cost between U$5,000,000,000 to U$10,000,000,000 , and it's all to find a fundamental particle which first appeared between Higgs' ears in 1964 during a walk in the Cairngorms, a Scottish mountain range.

    Higgs is a retired Professor Emeritus now. As a kid, he was home-schooled. He is an atheist and is said to be annoyed that his Boson has acquired a popular nickname, "the God Particle." (Actually the original nickname was "goddamn particle," for its elusiveness, but the publisher altered the blasphemy to "God Particle.")

    I think this is all wonderful and very exciting. To search for the particle which gives mass to the universe (and thus gravity as well), no living creature will be extincted, no human child, man or woman will be put in fear or harmed, or degraded or insulted.

    Esther is graduated from Smith College 2008 / Free the Bees / William Morris rose wallpaper / how to pass high school chemistry

    About six months ago I got an e-mail from Totally Left Field from a high school pal I haven't seen or spoken to in, oh, about 42 years.

    I liked him back then, he was smart and funny, and we were both very memorable, because when Dr. Archie Lucas the chemistry teacher caught on fire, my pal and I were the only two students who weren't paralyzed in their chairs from horror and shock, and we ran to get the fire extinguisher to put out the fire on the chemistry teacher.


    (After that, I always got a passing grade in chemistry.)

    By a bizarre coincidence, my pal's daughter just spent the last 4 years 1 mile east of me at Smith College. From which she was just graduated.

    And her lousy bum of a dad didn't phone us or make time for us to take him and his graduating daughter out to dinner. Color me annoyed.

    Anyway I made this little card for Esther.

    There were millions of images of pretty roses, but I have an obsessive love for the art (and socialist rally music and poetry and hand-carved woodcut typography and fantasy fiction and economic theory and stained glass windows and tapestries and wooden furniture and and) of William Morris, and filched one of his famous wallpapers from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.


    Esther, I have learned, is a strict vegan, and eats neither meat nor flesh of any creature, nor dairy products, nor eggs.


    I asked her dad if she eats honey.
    In Vegan Theory, he said, she doesn't or shouldn't or won't.

    She could eat wild honey if she found a glop of it dripping from a wild hive in a tree in the woods, and she didn't have to bother or interfere with the natural activities of the wild bees to get it.

    But honey from a beekeeper's apiary -- this would be honey from enslaved and exploited bees forced against their will to fly around collecting pollen and nectar to turn into honey for our evil human greed, sweet teeth, and our capitalist profit.


    But dad said she knocks back honey now and then anyway, when nobody's looking.

    Kathleen Mansfield Murry (14 October 1888 – 9 January 1923) was a prominent New Zealand modernist writer of short fiction who wrote under the pen name of Katherine Mansfield.

    Mansfield was born Kathleen Mansfield Beauchamp into a socially prominent family in Wellington, New Zealand. The daughter of a banker and born to a middle-class colonial family, she was also a first cousin of author Countess Elizabeth von Arnim. Mansfield had a lonely and alienated childhood. Her first published stories appeared in the High School Reporter and the Wellington Girls' High School magazine, in 1898 and 1899. She moved to London in 1902, where she attended Queen's College, London. A talented cellist, she was not at first attracted to literature, and after finishing her schooling in England, she returned to her New Zealand home in 1906. It was upon her return to New Zealand that Kathleen Beauchamp began writing short stories. Weary of the provincial New Zealand lifestyle, Beauchamp returned to London two years later in 1908.

    On her return to London in 1908, she quickly fell into the bohemian/bisexual way of life lived by many artists and writers of that era.[1] With little money, she met, married and left her first husband, George Bowden, all within just three weeks. Around this time, she became pregnant by a family friend from New Zealand (Garnet Trowell, a professional violinist) and her mother sent her to Bavaria.[2]

    Katherine suffered a miscarriage in 1909, possibly brought on by lifting her trunk off the top of a wardrobe. Back in England, her work drew the attention of several publishing houses, and Beauchamp took on the pen-name Katherine Mansfield upon the publication of her first collection of short stories, In a German Pension, in 1911. She also contracted gonorrhoea around this time, an event that was to plague her with arthritic pain for the rest of her short life, as well as to make her view herself as a 'soiled' woman.

    Discouraged by the volume's lack of success, Mansfield submitted a lightweight story to a new avant-garde magazine called Rhythm. The story was rejected by editor John Middleton Murry, who requested something darker. Mansfield responded with "The Woman at the Store," a tale of murder and mental illness that Murry called "the best story by far that had been sent to Rhythm." Mansfield moved in with Murry soon after its publication, and she would eventually marry him in 1918.

    Her life and work were changed forever with the death of her brother, a soldier, during World War I. She was shocked and traumatised by the experience, so much so that her work began to take refuge in the nostalgic reminiscences of their childhood in New Zealand.[3] During these years, she also formed important professional friendships with writers such as D. H. Lawrence and Virginia Woolf, who later claimed that her writing was 'The only writing I have ever been jealous of'.

    Although she continued writing between her first and second collections ("Prelude", 1918), she rarely published her work, and sank into depression. Her health declined further after a near-fatal attack of pleurisy when she contracted tuberculosis in 1917. It was while combating the disease in health spas across Europe, suffering a serious hemorrhage in 1918, that Mansfield began writing the works she would become best known for.

    "Miss Brill," the bittersweet story of a fragile woman living an ephemeral life of observation and simple pleasures in Paris, established Mansfield as one of the preeminent writers of the Modernist period, upon its publication in 1920's Bliss. The title story from that collection, "Bliss," which involved a similar character facing her husband's infidelity, also found critical acclaim. She followed with the equally praised collection, The Garden Party, published in 1922.

    Final years

    Mansfield spent her last years seeking increasingly unorthodox cures for her tuberculosis. In February 1922, she consulted the Russian physician Ivan Manoukhin. His "revolutionary" treatment, which consisted of bombarding her spleen with X-rays, caused Mansfield to develop heat flashes and numbness in her legs.

    The Dictionary of National Biography reports that she now came to feel that her attitude to life had been unduly rebellious, and she sought, during the days that remained to her, to renew and compose her spiritual life. In October 1922, Mansfield moved to Georges Gurdjieff's Institute for the Harmonious Development of Man in Fontainebleau, France, where she was under the care of Olgivanna Lazovitch Hinzenburg (later, Mrs. Frank Lloyd Wright). Mansfield suffered a fatal pulmonary hemorrhage in January 1923, after running up a flight of stairs to show Murry how well she was.[4] She was buried in a cemetery in the Fontainebleau District in the town of Avon.

    Mansfield proved to be a prolific writer in the final years of her life, and much of her prose and poetry remained unpublished at her death. Murry took on the task of editing and publishing her works.

    His efforts resulted in two additional volumes of short stories in 1923 (The Dove's Nest) and in 1924 (Something Childish), as well as her Poems, The Aloe, a collection of critical writings (Novels and Novelists) and a number of editions of Mansfield's previously unpublished letters and journals.

    Legacy

    Katherine Mansfield is widely considered one of the best short story writers of her period. A number of her works, including "Miss Brill", "Prelude", "The Garden Party", "The Doll's House", and later works such as "The Fly", are frequently collected in short story anthologies. Mansfield also proved ahead of her time in her adoration of Russian playwright Anton Chekhov, and incorporated some of his themes and techniques into her writing. The fact that Mansfield died relatively young only added to her legacy.

    Mount Roskill Grammar School in Auckland, Rangiora High School in North Canterbury, Tauranga Girls' College in Tauranga, Westlake Girls' High School in Auckland, Macleans College in Auckland, Wellington Girls' College in Wellington and Rangitoto College in Auckland have a house named after her.

    A street in Menton, France, where she lived and wrote, is named after her and a Fellowship is offered annually to enable a New Zealand writer to work at her former home, the Villa Isola Bella. New Zealand's pre-eminent short story competition is also named in her honour.

    awesome. dulce et decorum est is one of my favourite poems. i even posted it on my blog a little while back with a couple of other favourites.

    as the title of the poem says, even though war is made out to be glorious and, it can and never will be and today we find the US army has the highest number of suicides on record when they learn the bitter truth that war isn't what FOX and CNN make it out to be or the "Be all you can be" ads on television, but a bit more on the Al Jazeera side of things.

    Suicides were a frequent thing when I was in the army during the Vietnam War. A typical way was hanging from a rafter by bootlaces. Now it turns out that of this year's suicide attempts at Veterans Hospitals, about half are from Vietnam vets.

    Wasn't that way in World War 2, soldiers believed in the war enough to want to keep doing their job and live thru it. It's the sucky wars that make people want to snuff themselves.

    Could you say a few (or many) words about the role of military chaplains?

    I came away from my Vietnam-era experience hating chaplain officers more than any other identifiable military bunch. As far as I was concerned, these freakazoids were perfectly comfie torturing the message of Jesus (or Moses, happy to lump the rabbi chaplains into my Hate List too) so that clearly, Jesus & Moses clearly wanted us to annihilate 3rd World strangers, which would reward us with Extra Bonus Holy Points with the Almighty.

    I didn't like war well before I got drafted, but military chaplains were the primary culprits who pushed me vigorously toward Quaker Meeting after I got out. To the best of my knowledge, ain't no Quaker chaplains in the armed forces.

    This doesn't reflect well on what I absorbed from the Society of Friends, but I would honestly like to run over military chaplains with my Pontiac, and then back up and run over them again just to make sure. No skid marks near those corpses.

    There. I've said it. Feels great.

    Long ago - in one of the earlier conflicts - Sky Pilot was the theme song for a group of us whose nickname was Crispy Critters. That's because we flew in helicopters made with a magnesium alloy whose fuel tanks were on the bottom of the craft.

    This was in late '68 and sentiment was just turning against the war. All of us volunteered - in one fashion or another - to be in this unit. We accounted for about 50% of the kills in the 1st Cavalry Division and the Cav accounted for a good percentage of the kills for all the Army units.

    So what's the point of all this rambling? I just downloaded Sky Pilot and listened to it for the first time in 25 years. It still filled me with the same fatalism that it did all those years ago.

    And it sure sounds like the theme song for a new generation in an old conflict.

    Know of anyway to post this song on a board that troops in Iraq can get to?
