Quarter of a Man

lyrics: Ben Harper
music: David Lindley
from the 1981 album (and band) El Rayo-X

there's a quarter of a man in the market
with a quarter of a car so it's easy to park it
he gets to the counter
he pays what he can
but he only pays a quarter

he's a quarter of a man

now this quarter of a man he got fired
the next damn day he got hired
The only thing wrong with this plan
is he only makes a quarter

he's a quarter of man

every day he's on the street
too few quarters to live or to eat

he's so little the people all stare
but he only pays a quarter fare

now this quarter of a man's on vacation
but he still gets his ration
he gets to the market he saves what he can
but he only saves a quarter
he's a quarter of a man

every day he's on the street
too few quarters to live or to eat
he's so little the people all stare
but he only pays a quarter fare

there's a quarter of a man in the market
with a quarter of a car so it's easy to park it
he gets to the market
he saves what he can
but he only saves a quarter
he's a quarter of a man

Y’know I have a soft spot for reggae, dub and ska riddims so this was right up my alley. Thanks for that nice surprise !
(I once did a Friday Nite Drinkin’ List full of ska, bluebeat and reggae stuff. Ah, what fun !)

btw happy new year and what happened to your videos ? Did the hard disk munch up all your utub bookmarks ?

Oh about 4 months ago suddenly everything that wiggled wouldn't. I don't have much use for videos except music YouTubes -- and now they were black, error msg, couldn't play 'em.

I would have panicked and freaked out louder, and kidnapped a Windows nerd ... but I'm TRYING to do a lot of important TEXT work ... so this was a convenient moment not to be distracted by videos and music.

The other night RealPlayer notified me it had an update or new version for me to upload and install. I guessed this was likely the cause of all my video woes. I installed it, and SHAZAM! all the wiggly things, the YouTubes, were working again.

Now, for my work, I have to rely on Self-Discipline.

Reading about Lindley, he has an odd choice of stringed instruments. He likes cheap guitars and ukuleles etc. -- the models you'd buy as a kid's first instrument. He likes the sounds these "inferior" instruments produce.

Get VLC, this is superior to bloody RealPlayer and also gratis. VLC can handle ANY audio and video format, no codecs required. RealPlayer is, pardon my language, a bag of pain.

Also make sure to update your browser. Get Firefox (FF has lots of cool add-ons that will make your electronic life easier) and ditch IE. Your browser might have had issues with the HTML5 implementation of certain video sites, that’s probably why utub was kaputt for a while.

If the old Sony notebook is still running on Vista then do yourself a favour and upgrade to Windows 7. Forget Win 8, you might get a good deal right now for W7. W7 is much stabler than Vista or W8 and you will have less compability issues in the future.

Avoid any Apple product, no matter the circumstance. I speak from experience. Apple is definetly the Dark Side Of The Force, what the hell was I doing there ?

I hope I don’t sound like a patronising smartass here, if you have any tech q’s or issues then lemme know !

I must also check out David Lindley, sounds most interesting. The stuff I learn on Vleeptron brightens my horizon !
