Our friend rescued a mother cat who had just given birth to a litter of six kittens, and gave us these two: Daisy Mae and William. Unfortunately the veterinarian noticed that Daisy Mae had testicles, so we quickly changed her name to Spike so the kitten would not grow up with psychological ambiguities and confusions about its gender.
Now the household has five cats: Benedict Spinoza Cat, Stewart Wallace Darnley Cat, and Mimi the screaming paranoid shelter rescue cat.

A lady friend of mine used to have a long-haired cat which was called Sarah.
That cat was fine for years, but at times she showed some strange behaviour and never had to see a vet in years. Remember: long-haired cat with strange attitudes at times but no other issues.
Then, one day, she had to go to the vet with Sarah and the vet examined her and found testies where there should have been none.
In order to avoid further psychological damage the cat had to be renamed and for a brief time before its untimely death about a year ago the reborn male was called Little Bear (Bärli). My lady friend is still embarrased when somebody tells that story, but has learned to take this story with a grin.
