PIZZAQ: "Mark and Beverly Escaping from the Shopping Mall" / Cincinnati Museum of Forgotten Cliches

Clicking should do good things.

Okay, here's a big, clear shot of the painting on the wall at my grand-niece (?) Anya Rose's birthday party. For the Pizza, ya need to figure out the Artist and the Name of the Painting. When I saw it on the party photo, I realized the painting was so familiar/famous that I must have seen it 5000 times. But I had no idea who painted it or what it was. It's not Andy Warhol.

Wow! On the nose! Credit Pizza to your account!

I tried all sorts of clever Googling but came up empty. (My niece had to tell me.) How'd you do it??

from the Met website:

=========

The Storm, 1880

Pierre-Auguste Cot (French, 1837-1883)

Oil on canvas; 92 1/4 x 61 3/4 in. (234.3 x 156.8 cm)

Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Collection, Bequest of Catharine Lorillard Wolfe, 1887 (87.15.134)

This painting was commissioned from the artist in 1880 by Catharine Lorillard Wolfe, under the guidance of her cousin, John Wolfe, one of Cot's principal patrons. When it was exhibited in the Salon that year, critics speculated about the source of the subject. Some suggested the Greek romance Daphnis and Chloe by Longus (ca. 200 A.D.), and others the romantic tale Paul et Virginie by Bernardin de Saint-Pierre (1737-1814).

Bruce Redford is the chair of the Art History department here at BU, and a regular participant in a bible study I run here. I only had to describe the painting to him in about two sentences and he got it. Then, to verify, I went to the Met website and it came right up. I owe him half a pizza.
