Police Log:

* Two teenage girls will be summoned to Juvenile Court following a streaking incident during an assembly at the Northampton High School football field about 1:17 p.m. Friday, according to police. Police said one girl, age 16, ran naked across the field, and will be charged as a delinquent with disorderly conduct and disturbing a school function. A 15-year-old girl will be charged as a delinquent with trespassing, police said.

I'm assuming, since you wrote this post, that you missed this incident out your front window. The sight of these two streaking might just have resulted in a significant myocardial infarction...

it was just the latest in a long series of disruptive neighborhood incidents that the high school office failed to notify us about in advance.

For maybe a few decades, on the coldest winter night of the year, hundreds of Oberlin College undergraduates would spontaneously show up at the athletic field naked and run around the track for an hour or so. Finally a new president put his foot down and said he was stopping the tradition. He was a physician, and said it wasn't for prudishness, but for health reasons -- to stop the annual crop of frostbitten nipples and penises.

I like adolescents and college students. They think laws -- the Laws of Nature, the Laws of Physics, the Laws of the school, the town, the state, the federal government -- don't apply to them.
