ADULT THEMES series: Politicians of Earth
First Day Issue

"Dominique Strauss-Kahn / le Lapin Chaud"

Poised to skip smoothly from president of the International Monetary Fund to the next President of France, DSK -- known within the French political community as "le lapin chaud" or "the hot rabbit" -- was first accused of sexual violence against a New York City hotel (Sofitel) housemaid.

A few hours after the alleged assault, the cops found him sitting on a plane waiting to fly to France. (It turns out IMF officials have a very limited diplomatic immunity, like to fixing parking tickets.)

He has a famous TV journalist wife, Anne Sinclair, and they have a couple of kids.

This week France charged DSK with pimping.

DSK's lawyer says that all the young attractive females at the parties DSK liked to attend were nude, so how could DSK possibly know that they were prostitutes?

DSK's lawyer publicly informed the court of the case for the defense: "Lust is not a crime!"

(If anyone knows the original en francais, svp remmittez un Comment immediatement, merci. I want to make it into a t-shirt.)

The prostitution ring DSK has been charged with assisting and recruiting also has (had?) operations in Belgium.

Basically, I can't get enough of this smut. This is better than Berlusconi, and it just keeps getting better and better.

I sincerely beg your forgiveness. I am an old newspaper editor, and when a story like this pops up on the screen, we look Heavenward and give thanks to Our Lord. (It is very possible the Lord of Newspaper Editors is not exactly YOUR Lord.)

I AM VERY ANGRY that I have received e-mails accusing the A-VP photograph of DSK of being Photoshopped. This is a Filthy Lie. A-VP hates Photoshop, and exclusively uses MSPaint. (And if you love MSPaint, don't forget to download the Absolutely Free but Far More Amazing Paint.net !!)

In my whole life I don't think I can remember a top-level national politician in any country being charged with pimping.

Bad Things, Assorted Evil, Corruption, War Crimes, and of course sexual pecadillos (pecadilli?) up the whizwang.

But this is my first Pimping Charge.

You know other top-level politicians got charged with that, too? Leave A Comment. (I will need to research your claim, a tedious job which may take hours or a couple days, depending on how many grainy telephotos and editorial cartoons are on your citation sites.)

This Guy Is A World-Class Pig.

And the bar we set for male USA politicians is pretty fucking low.

Looks like a guy who got real near the USA presidency will be going to federal prison for paying off the woman who bore and is raising his Love Child. All the time the Churchgoing Smiling Mister Clean's wife and mother of (most of) his kids was dying of cancer.

Our fine American Supermarket Checkout Tabloid, The National Enquirer, was the only media agency that kept snooping, and finally caught him deep in the night at the Love Nest & Nursery.

So we know Tawdry.

But pimping ... this is a new one for me. I know Klaas in Rotterdam gets charged with this now and then, but not the guy on the fast track to President of France. Not the president of the IMF.

=====================

Bunga bunga is a phrase of uncertain meaning that dates from 1910 if not earlier. By 2010 the phrase had gained popularity in Italy and the international press as well, when it was used by the Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi to refer to his alleged sex parties, which caused a major political scandal in Italy.

Early use

In an 1852 issue of Hogg's Instructor, it is stated that "bunga bunga" is the name given by local natives to a location near Moreton Bay on the eastern coast of Australia.[1]

In 1910 a group of English friends, including Virginia Woolf and her brother Adrian Stephen, pretending to be the Prince of Abyssinia and his entourage obtained permission to visit HMS Dreadnought, then one of the world's most powerful warships, in Weymouth in what became known as the Dreadnought hoax. Each time the Commander showed them a marvel of the ship, they murmured the phrase bunga, bunga![2][3] This became a popular catchphrase for a time.[4]

Resurgence in Italy

The term "Bunga Bunga" has been closely associated with former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi in recent history

A century later, the term bunga bunga became popular again as a joke on the internet.[5] This joke was then narrated by Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi at his dinner parties (in a version which featured, as prisoners, former ministers from the center-left opposition party led by Romano Prodi)[6]

This expression was then frequently quoted by the Italian and international press during the 2011 investigation surrounding Silvio Berlusconi's underage prostitution charges, acquiring a quite different meaning as "an orgy involving a powerful leader"; as such, it was allegedly taught to Silvio Berlusconi by Muammar al-Gaddafi.[7]

In Italy, the term bunga bunga "has become an instant, supposedly hilarious, household expression".[8]

Descriptions of bunga bunga disagree on its meaning, or perhaps illustrate the range of its reference. It "is said to be a sort of underwater orgy where nude young women allegedly encircled the nude host and/or his friends in his swimming pool",[9] "an African-style ritual" performed for male spectators by "20 naked young women",[10] or erotic entertainment hosted by a rich host involving pole dancing and competitive striptease by skimpy-costumed "women in nurses' outfits and police uniforms"[11] — but topless women, the prize being prostitution for the host.[12]

An alternative explanation for its origins was proposed by actress Sabina Began, who claimed that it was a nickname based on her surname and that she had organized the parties.[13]

The lexicographer Jonathon Green does not expect the term to make much headway, or to last, in English.[14]

In other languages

The phrase "bonggang-bongga" is Tagalog slang for something fashionable, and in Indonesian language it means "a field of flowers".[13]
