Vleeptron nominates Malala Yousafzai for today's Nobel Peace Prize

This post may seem a bit sloppy and hasty and slapdash for Vleeptron, which is renowned throughout c-space for high, distinguished and thoughtful standards.

But we're in a bit of a hurry.

In a few hours, Oslo will rise and shine, and the Norwegian Nobel Committee will announce this year's recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Vleeptron is hoping the Committee will award the Peace Prize to Malala Yousafzai, a 16-year-old Pakistani who has captured the world's attention and admiration for her courageous advocacy of education for girls.

That would almost certainly make her the youngest recipient of the Peace Prize, which has been awarded each year since 1901 (with a few skipped years in which the Committee couldn't find enough Peace to merit awarding the prize).

Okay, so Vleeptron has been late and busy and slow, so this post, and the image at top, are probably filled with horrible errors and mistakes and ignorances.

We're trying to present Malala Yousafzai's name in her native language, Pashto, along with some (filched) school-kid Pashto vocabulary words.

But Malala Yousafzai first achieved fame blogging for the BBC in Urdu about her childhood experiences during war and violence in the Swat region of Pakistan.

So Vleeptron will be most grateful if anyone who actually knows (or has opinions) about this stuff is kind enough to Leave A Comment about Pashto, Urdu, Swat, Pakistan, childhood education -- and of course about Malala Yousafzai (who currently lives in Birmingham, England UK).

But despite Vleeptron's abysmal ignorance about all these things, we're still hoping the Prize goes to Malala Yousafzai.

We think that would be a tremendously good thing for Earth, for Peace, for children, for everybody's future.

this whole deal is a bit overrated with malala. she hasn't done much and definitely doesn't need a nomination for peace. what really has she done? she's wrongly being used as a poster child for a war that americans are brewing. a similar poster was used in the first gulf war. the issue is not the rightness of the individual cause but the kind of propaganda used and the use of child victims in posters. similar heart-tugging posters were used against the germans in WWII and against the communists in the 1948 Italian elections.

there were more girls with malala who had been shot but only malala was the one sent abroad for treatment. nobody knows where the other girls went when everyone is curious about which book malala is reading at the moment. By the way, on the same date when malala was shot in the head, many Shias perished by the Taliban as well but social media wasn't allowed to talk about it. there were many girls killed if you're talking about girls only.

she was also falsely used as a misdirection from the real political issues the country was facing at the time and her being used as a distraction seemed rather appropriate.

anyway, just my $0.02.

Yeah, I didn't want to be too screamingly obvious, but I was sorta hoping Agence-Vleeptron Presses's

Man-On-The-Ground in PK would take the bait and respond with the Local Angle on the Malala thing.

Mainly I was hoping you would be thoughtful enough to tell me everything I got wrong about Pashto and

Urdu etc. As I said, I was in a bit of a hurry to post my Peace Prize nomination before Oslo woke up.

(And awarded the prize to a very worthy recipient who is Not Malala. Details to follow.)

I've been reading Malala stuff in PK English-lingo newspapers, so I'm hugely aware that our view of

Malala from North America / USA is verrrrrrrrry different from the local perception.

btw, which English-lingo PK newspaper do you recommend? Which paper do you urge me to stay far away

from? Which paper is Mush Friendly? Which paper is Mush Hostile?

And while I got you on the line -- sup with the Mush, is he free on bail, is he in gaol, is he in house

arrest. I get the vague and uninformed impression that PK is gently trying to hint to him that he might

want to Go Away and Not Come Back, that that would be a very acceptable resolution.

more about this very interesting thing tomorrow ... but superthanks for your thoughts.

try dawn.com or tribune.com.pk

there's others like thenews.com.pk which aren't so great. though dawn is the most widely read and well respected amongst the english speaking elite.

as for mush, no clue. honestly, i've stopped watching/listening/reading the news. it's too depressing to do so while living here. sometimes he's in jail (read:house arrest in a lovely mansion in islamabad), sometimes he's not. can't keep up with the facts straight.

bob,

this is an excellent write up on why the west fawning over her is not cool.
