Campaign 2008: 1 less potential babysitter, Fred is down the crapper

Flush for simpler.

The Vleeptron Campaign 2008 Babysitter Poll just got simpler. Now you can't have Fred Dalton Thompson, the Reaganesque crackerbarrel TV actor and millionaire K-Street lobbyist, as your precious adorable child's babysitter. He is no longer available. He has dropped out of the race.

While he lasted ... he entered the GOP race late and never really wiggled the needle in any caucus or primary ... he was regarded as possessing one unique virtue. He had so insubstantial a political track record -- one term as US senator from Tennessee -- that he was relatively unburdened by the tremendous Negatives attached to nearly every other GOP candidate. Thus he was the hope of a lot of Republicans that he could run for president without ripping the desperately ill and confused post-Bush GOP further apart, that he could be a corny folksy nostalgic kind of Reagan actor-cum-cowboy whom all Republicans could enthusiastically embrace.

While he was a Senator, if a constituent wrote him demanding an end to abortion, his office would reply with a letter that said Fred was solidly against abortion. If a constituent wrote advocating a woman's right to choose, his office sent back a letter that said Fred respected and supported a woman's right to choose.

While he was a candidate, I honestly never heard him say anything sure, solid, clear or certain about any substantive issue. I think he was for a Better Future for All Americans, but I'm not sure.

I'm still looking for an image of NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who keeps hinting that at any moment he may decide to buy the White House for four or eight years. Find a good hiding place for your Geiger counters.

Can I still vote for 'none of the above'? Maybe Bill Richardson, but he's about it.

Re-read this post, I've added some uncomplimentary things about Fred. Did they stop running "Law & Order" episodes that starred Fred as the Manhattan DA? Well, they can start broadcasting the Fred episodes again.

Your willingness to let Bill Richardson babysit your precious child is duly noted. I sort of liked the New Mexico governor who preceded him, a Republican self-made businessman who wanted to legalize all drugs.

I just saw Bill interviewed on a History Channel show about Billy the Kid. Richardson argued that Billy the Kid was important because today about half of all tourists are there to see Billy the Kid stuff. He had a pretty solid grasp on the historical significance of Billy the Kid.

None of the Democrats running have the breadth of national government experience that Richardson had. Second closest might have been Senator Dodd and Senator Biden.

Richardson:

Congress
Ambassador to the UN
Secretary of Energy
Governor of New Mexico

Listen: I tell you the truth. No one wants to legalize harmful drugs. This parallel's are bizarre, but I will laugh at them because I must be a child to not understand what you do. Law and Order is a pretty good show. I would not reccomend it for small children at all.
